Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations indicate the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
